About This Place

Nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s Inner Sunset neighborhood, Yuanbao Jiaozi 元寶餃子 is a charming Chinese restaurant celebrated for its authentic Northeastern Chinese-style dumplings and soulful noodle soups. This unassuming spot on 2110 Irving St offers an inviting atmosphere where the art of handmade dumplings is beautifully showcased, with talented chefs crafting each piece behind a glass window—a subtle performance that adds to the charm and anticipation.

The menu is a treasure trove of traditional flavors, anchored by standout dishes like the Pork, Shrimp, Chive & Egg Dumplings (肉三鲜餃子), which boast a perfect harmony of juicy pork, sweet shrimp, fresh chives, and delicate egg wrapped in thin, silky dough. Served in a light broth or pan-fried, these dumplings provide a burst of umami and comforting warmth that's hard to resist. Equally beloved is the House Special Beef Noodle Soup (秘制牛肉面), a rich and mildly spiced bowl featuring tender slow-cooked beef immersed in a dark, fragrant broth that seems to soothe the soul with every spoonful. The pickled Chinese cabbage version adds a delightful tang, elevating the classic even further.

Beyond the dumplings and noodles, the small plates such as the Shredded Pig Ear in Chili Oil (红油耳丝) and refreshing Cucumber Salad (凉拌黄瓜) offer textural contrasts and bold, vibrant flavors that awaken the palate. For those seeking a lighter bite, the Celery and Peanut Salad (西芹花生) delivers a crunchy, nutty freshness, perfectly offsetting the hearty mains.

What truly sets Yuanbao Jiaozi apart is not just the meticulous preparation but the way it evokes a sense of authentic comfort and nostalgia for those familiar with genuine Taiwanese and Northeastern Chinese home-style cooking. Reviewers frequently highlight the generous portions—plentiful enough to share among friends—and consistently commend the friendly, attentive service that makes solo dining feel warm and welcoming.

Jennifer Young raves about the beef noodle soup and the shrimp, pork, chives & egg dumplings as “perfect for this change in season,” capturing the cozy, restorative nature of the food. Jesse Lee attests to the authenticity, comparing it to the comfort foods in Taiwan and dismissing overhyped alternatives, while Raj V was impressed with the kindness of the staff and abundance of flavors to please a group.

Though some find the dumpling-making window a curious touch, it adds an artisanal feel that enhances the overall dining experience. Prices are refreshingly affordable, making Yuanbao Jiaozi an excellent destination for anyone craving traditional Chinese comfort food that feels lovingly homemade.

Whether you’re new to dumpling culture or a seasoned enthusiast, Yuanbao Jiaozi invites you to indulge in hearty soups and expertly crafted dumplings that comfort, satisfy, and connect you to culinary traditions from far away but felt intimately close.

10/10 no notes! Highly recommend the beef noodle soup with pickled Chinese cabbage & the shrimp, pork, chives & egg dumplings in soup. Perfect for this change in season.

This little unassuming restaurant is the real deal for good dumplings and beef noodles soup. Reminds me of comfort foods I can get in Taiwan. Expect a line at popular times. I hate Google reviews overhyping restaurants when most reviewers wouldn’t know good Asian food if it kicked them in the butt. This place is better. I hope I’m not over hyped this place.

Absolutely amazing chinese food. the pork dumpling soup and beef noodle soup (spicy) were both excellent and enough food to share for 3 people. people in the restaurant were very kind.

Yuanbao Jiaozi is a little unassuming northeastern Chinese style restaurant known for their freshly made dumplings. I'm not sure why they have the two ladies behind a window making dumplings. It seems more of a gimmick. We had the spicy house special noodles $15, cucumber salad $8, beef tendon $11, pork dumplings $12 and lamb dumplings $13. The food was OK. It tasted clean. Service was excellent.

Yummy dumpling place on Irving St and the prices are extremely affordable for what they offer! I got a beef noodle soup (non-spicy) and it soothed my soul, super delicious and it has that dark but also tender broth. I also tried the Pork and Napa Cabbage dumpling soup and it was light and filling (12 dumplings in the soup). This spot is great for solo-dining and the service is attentive and friendly. Parking in the area is pretty hard so do plan ahead!

Marinated beef was surprisingly nice - even though the beef pieces were cold / not hot. I just wish they had a few more options without egg. I’m allergic to egg but most of the soup / regular dimsum options had egg in them.

Can’t go wrong with their dumplings. So many per order (14), so best to go with a group to try more flavours. We had the pork and cabbage & the shrimp, egg, and chive - would highly recommend both! The beef noodle soup was also great, but ended up being overshadowed by the dumplings.

5/5 spot for beef noodle soup also don’t sell yourself short and not get at least an order of the dumplings. My fave is the shrimp/egg/chive dumpling. Be prepared to wait if you come on a busy hour
